Two hundred WTSDA competitors from around region 1 flocked to Roseburg, OR for our annual regional championship. The competition took place on the beautiful Umpqua Community College.

The championship weekend began Friday night with the spring black belt test. Approximately 15 candidates showed their techniques, knowledge, and spirit in a 3 hour evaluation.

The championship began Saturday morning with the black belt competition. Six championship cups were up for grabs. The junior cups were taken home by Ms. Madison Murrish and Mr. Caleb Cathey. The senior cups were awarded to Mrs. Tamela Thomas and Mr. Leland Salomon. And finally, the Grand Champion cups were won by Ms. Mackenzie Freeman and Mr. Elijah Stephenson.

The heart of the championship started with opening ceremonies where the competitors and spectators got to view the creativity competition. The winner, for the 2nd year in a row, was Evergreen Tang Soo Do from Seattle, Washington. The crowd was also treated to a demonstration by the masters of Region 1. There was even a surprise demo by Grandmaster Robert Beaudoin!

When all the competition was finished, all competitors, volunteers, spectators, and family were invited to attend the region banquet for food, fun, and dancing.

What a great weekend! Tang Soo!

The male junior cup went to Mr. Caleb Cathey, not Koen Shelby. I imagine Mr. Shelby will be a fierce competitor though, when his time comes.
